Hello Medium world! Andrei great article and even better wine questions. As a Professional Sommelier I have had the opportunity to sell, serve, and taste the '47 Cheval Blanc you mentioned. Would I taste the Romerwein? Yes, without hesitation. The value of wine is not in flavor, or food pairings, or even rarity. Wine value is based on the story. Ultimately, the struggle behind the wine is the story of the people; their decisions, sacrifices, expectations, and artful content. To taste the '47 Cheval was an internalization of history. This was the first vintage of recovery after WWII. A glorious summer that provided the thankful survivors a harvest unparalleled in quality, and devoid of bombs and tragedy. It was a vintage of healing celebration that warranted the best efforts of all people involved in it's making. The Romerwein is a time capsule. No science fiction needed, just an open mind, a glass, and good company.
